Nutrition and Drug Rehab

Think of your brain as an engine of a car.  If you put good gas in it and get a tune up and oil change frequently, your car will most likely run much better. Now, apply this to a very malnourished recovering addict whether it is alcohol or drugs.

Nutritious foods are essential to speed up recovery. It will heal your abused organs faster thus making you feel more normal.

If you eat crap like McDonalds or taco hell, you will feel very sluggish and too many not so good fats will remain in your system. Ask any doctor and I guarantee they will almost always agree.

Foods also contribute to healthy mental clarity along with proper nutrient rich supplements.

When the synapses or neurotransmitters give out to operate like they should, transmittance gets disjointed and we begin to feel intense solitude, focus, anxiousness, and depressive disorder. Most often this misfunction comes about because of genetic science.

As a matter of fact, an approximated thirty-three pct. of people have some type of genetic sensitivity to addiction of both alcohol and drugs. Relapse is very common if you feel any of the above just mentioned.

Drugs and alcohol make us feel good because they arouse neurotransmitter performance, which is why we keep going back for more.

It's a fictitious sensation of euphoria, nonetheless, because habit-forming substances sooner or later wipe out the neurotransmitters essential for healthy performance.

What’s to a greater extent, drug and alcohol addiction hinders on the ingestion of critical nutrients our body requires to stay alive.

When drugs or alcohol take over, alters in appetites contribute to malnutrition which worsens the dreadful symptoms we try to fend off. We can not get enough because we never actually feel good anymore.

That is what is commonly known as "Chasing That High" that you never ever get again since the first time using.

If you can jumpstart your body into experiencing that awesome, great feeling again, of course, without the need for habit-forming substances, you could fundamentally wipe out all cravings and free the brain to concentrate on behavioral and cognitive advances.

Amino acids have been found to be the stuff neurotransmitters are made of. Supplying the body with an abundance of specific amino acids can help restore their functioning, reduce cravings, increase sensations of well being, and minimize relapse.

Brain Food for Drug Addiction Recovery

Amino acids are found in foods high in protein. Below is a list of specific amino acids that have been shown to alleviate symptoms of addiction, and the most commonly available food sources from which they come:

L-tryptophanEgg whites, spirulina,Atlantic cod, raw soybeans, parmesan chees

L-5 hydroxytryptophan chromium salts Minute traces in turkey and cheese, supplements    derived from the seeds of Griffonia simplicifolia
L-GlutamineMeat and dairy products,    beans, beats, spinach, parsley, and cabbage
L-phenylalanineCow milk, goat milk, aspartame sugar substitutes
L-tyrosineCheeses, sirloin, soy protein, egg whites, salmon
PhenylalanineMeat, poultry, fish, soybeans, dairy products, nuts and seeds

Most people and especially recovery individuals love sweets and carbohydrates when it is deficient of other critical nutrients. Substituting sugar and processed starches with just some of the foods listed here can assist in regenerating balance and emotional wholeness to an otherwise nerve-wracking state of affairs.

Along with psychological and spiritual therapies for overpowering addiction, nutritional support and dietary supplements are quite literally the food our brain needs for enhanced recovery.

***  One very important recovery aid I found that works for me is to excersice at least 2 - 3 days a week. Even simple cardio on a treadmill will help get those toxins out of your body faster. Just don't over due it and if you feel excessively tired during exercise , stop right away.
you have to gradually build up your strength over time depending on how imbalanced your mal nutritious body is. ***

Tell Us: What’s your favorite recipe using some of the foods mentioned above? And please feel free to Comment on any thing related to Helping Recovery.

Thank You,

    1. great reply! I have done a little research on this subject and you are absolutely right, protein is very helpful re-building our "building blocks" of life.. plus, if you were all ragged and skinny like a skeleton as I was when I quit, protein will also put some healthy weight back onto your body..
